New HDMI KVM Switches for Gaming Enthusiasts and Multimedia Professionals

ATEN is first off the blocks in the industry to offer a touchscreen, dual-rail LCD KVM switch which enables users to securely access up to 16 servers with support for both USB and PS/2 connectivity in a 1U rack configuration.

Based on a dual rail design, the Touch Screen LCD KVM features a high-resolution 17″ touch screen LCD monitor and keyboard with built-in touchpad. To optimize server room real estate, the keyboard can slide back while the touch screen LCD panel remains in plain sight to monitor and troubleshoot servers - even with the server rack door closed. By daisy chaining additional serial KVM switches, the KL3116T can control up to 512 computers or servers from a single keyboard, touch screen monitor and mouse console.

The new Touch Screen LCD KVM switch (also known as model number KL3116T) won’t come cheap though, as it will retail for $3,499, accompanied by a three-year warranty program.

ATEN Technology, Inc. today announced here at Interop Las Vegas 2009 new KVM switches with integrated HDMI and USB 2.0 ports. The new HDMI KVM switches (CS1792 and CS1794) are two- and four-port HDMI KVM switches that enable users to manage multiple HDMI-equipped computers, HDMI sources and USB devices from a single keyboard, monitor and mouse while maintaining superior, high-resolution video quality. Designed specifically for the SOHO market, the HDMI KVM switches are ideal for gamers and multimedia professionals who demand high-quality video and audio. Available now, the HDMI KVM switches (CS1792 and CS1794) are competitively priced at $284.95 and 379.95, respectively, and are backed by a three-year warranty program.

The new HDMI switches are part of ATEN's newly created CubiQ line of advanced desktop KVM switches. Both models are fully compliant with the latest HDMI 1.3a and HDCP specifications. The Video DynaSync(TM) function ensures video resolution is automatically optimized from one port to the next, to support maximum resolutions of 1920x1080 with HDMI connections and 1920x1200 with DVI output. With integrated digital HDMI audio, the HDMI KVM switches (CS1792/CS1794) provides users with high-definition sound such as Dolby True HD and DTS Master Audio.

"With the launch of our new HDMI KVM switches into the SOHO market, ATEN is once again showcasing its innovation by bridging the home office with home entertainment environments. ATEN's HDMI KVM switches offer the ultimate in space-saving KVM technology, while delivering high quality video, sound, and performance that gaming enthusiasts and multimedia professionals demand," said John Owen, director of sales, ATEN Technology, Inc.

The HDMI KVM switches (CS1792/CS1794) provide seamless HDMI signal switching between two or four HDMI-enabled devices such as PCs, gaming consoles and satellite receivers. In addition, each unit has a built-in two-port USB 2.0 hub to allow users to share USB-based peripherals such as printers, digital cameras from a single console. With power detection functionality, when a computer is unplugged, the KVM will switch automatically to the next powered-on computer.

Acer 10.1-inch Aspire One AOD150

Technology - gadget review he version of the Acer Aspire One that we tested came with a six-cell, 5,800-milliamp (mAh) battery that provided 7 hours and 57 minutes of runtime. While some initial systems will ship with this battery, the majority will feature a six-cell, 4,400-mAh battery that Acer claims should provide up to six hours of power. We will update this review once we receive the 4,400-mAh battery.

The affordable, stylish, and compact Aspire One catapulted Acer to the top of the heap in terms of market share for the red-hot netbook category. The latest version, the 10.1-inch Aspire One AOD150, is likely to keep the company in the lead. Expanding the original Aspire One’s screen from 8.9 to 10.1 inches, the new Aspire One is nearly as svelte as its predecessor and, even though the keyboard is the same size, its revamped touchpad is a marked improvement over the original. Add in a six-cell battery, which should offer between 4.5 and 5.5 hours of battery life, and you have a killer deal for $349.
Slightly Updated Design of the 10-inch Aspire One

Aesthetically, the 10.1-inch Aspire One looks a lot like its older brother, but with a few noticeable differences. While it has similar rounded edges, the glossy navy blue lid (also available in white, black, and red) has more of a sparkle to it than the original’s solid hue, and the glossy palm rest has been replaced with a brushed metal coating that won’t attract fingerprints. Instead of the circular orange colored hinge of its predecessor, the new 10-inch version sports a teardrop-shape metallic hinge whose colored accent matches the lid.

At 10.2 x 8.0 x 1.3 inches, the 10.1-inch Aspire One is longer and wider than the original but falls in the same size range as the other 10-inch netbooks on the market. When stacked up with the 10-inch Eee PC 1000HE, a slightly chunkier mini-notebook, the Aspire One was thinner and noticeably more compact.

Tipping the scales at 2.8 pounds, the Aspire One weighs 3.2 ounces more than the HP Mini 2140, mainly due to its larger six-cell battery, which extends out the back of the system. (However, once the 4,400-mAH battery becomes available, the Aspire One’s footprint will likely be slightly smaller and its weight will be slightly lower.)
Ports

Acer didn’t change the port configuration; surrounding the Aspire One are three USB ports, and VGA, Ethernet, headphone, and microphone jacks. A 4-in-1 card reader is on the right side.

LG GD900 - TRANSPARENT KEYPAD

Technology Gadget-Most of its "advanced features" are being kept under wraps for the time being, but LG is showing off its strikingly-designed 13.4mm-thick GD900 this week with 7.2Mbps HSDPA in preparation for a launch later in the year. By and large, the design DNA here doesn't break rank with LG's sliders of the past year or two save for one very important exception: it features the world's first transparent keypad that softly glows when open -- and we've got to admit, this might be one of those rare instances where we're digging sheer beauty over functionality or usability. The company has also designed a dedicated Bluetooth headset to go along with its latest work of art -- but unfortunately, this image is about as close as you'll get to any of it until the planned second-half retail availability.

The GD900, which LG debuted at the GSMA World Congress, is billed as the world’s first phone with a transparent design handset. Not everything on the slider handset is transparent (the mechanical components are the old-fashioned opaque variety) but the rear slider is translucent and the keypad gives off a glittering show. LG promises a Bluetooth headset is in the works which will match the clear design of the phone itself.

Technical details about the GD900 were sparse at the show, but LG promises it will bring out the specs for review later this year. In the meantime, the GD900 has a futuristic look that is bound to win some devotees early on. As more and more cell phone manufacturers compete to include new applications and electronic features, style and simplicity in the user interface tend to get overlooked. Often it is the simple but beautiful item that wins out in the end. Expect the LG GD900 clear handset phone to show up in stores sometime in the third quarter of 2009. Read full story.....

Canon PowerShot SD780

COLOR, STYLE AND PHOTOGRAPHIC EXPERTISE INSPIRE CANON’S NEW 2009 POWERSHOT LINE-UP
LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., February 17, 2009 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging, today introduced 10 new PowerShot cameras that offer an array of photographic options for the entry-level consumer right up to the photo enthusiast. Whether on a family vacation, swimming in an ocean or out for a night on the town, the new line-up of PowerShot digital cameras enable consumers to customize their photographic experience to their personality with color, style and features galore.

Most PowerShot cameras for 2009 feature Canon’s exclusive DIGIC 4 Image Processor, with proprietary technology which accounts for the camera's higher performance levels, including improved signal processing speed and higher image quality. This new chip paves the way for a host of features including Canon’s new Smart AUTO. Smart AUTO intelligently selects the proper camera settings based on the specific shooting conditions of each scene, ensuring that all images are accurately focused, exposed, stabilized and white-balanced before the shutter is even pressed. Using data derived from Canon’s Optical Image Stabilization, Genuine Face Detection and Motion Detection Technologies, Smart AUTO automatically adjusts a multitude of settings including brightness and hue, during various shooting situations. Another enhancement available with select PowerShot models is Blink Detection Technology, which uses the Face Detection function to display an icon after shooting with a warning that someone’s eyes were closed (such as when blinking) during shooting. Unlike other systems which prevent users from taking a photo, Canon’s Blink Detection Technology lets users know immediately whether there’s any need to reshoot the image, thus providing a far more intuitive experience.

A third technological advancement with select PowerShot cameras is Active Display, which is used for quickly switching between images during playback. Instead of culling through a long line of images, via a control dial, Active Display advances pictures simply with a gentle shake of the wrist, making the viewing and sharing of pictures more fun and enjoyable.

“The power of the Canon PowerShot series is its ability to enhance consumers’ enjoyment of photography through its unique combination of ease-of-use, affordability, and personalization,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, senior vice president and general manager, Consumer Imaging Group, Canon U.S.A. “We are excited about this year’s PowerShot line-up because Canon’s cameras are loaded with advanced technologies and design options, thus enabling consumers to have the ultimate photographic experience.”

Canon PowerShot SX1 IS and SX200 IS Digital Cameras

The SX series cameras are designed for tech-savvy consumers looking for a little gusto in their camera with affordable high-power zoom performance. Packed with features sure to please, the new PowerShot SX1 IS and SX200 IS Digital Cameras offer an array of shooting options enabling the user to choose a product that is customized to fit their needs and enhance their overall shooting experience.

The Canon PowerShot SX1 IS Digital Camera is a 10.0-Megapixel powerhouse incorporating a CMOS image sensor and 1080p Full HD Movie mode, both first-in-class features for a PowerShot camera, resulting in superb image quality and enhanced flexibility. Still images can be captured easily with a 20x wide-angle Optical Zoom lens (equivalent to 28-560 mm) with Optical Image Stabilization and a 2.8-inch vari-angle wide-format LCD for great on-camera viewing and editing. What’s more, this camera offers a full range of shooting and recording modes, including RAW + JPEG for ultimate creative control. While the camera is in Movie Mode, the PowerShot SX1 IS Digital Camera can easily play back video and view photos on an HDTV, via a built-in HDMI connector. With all these great features and now Full HD Movie Mode, the PowerShot SX1 IS Digital Camera is the perfect complement to a DSLR. The PowerShot SX1 IS Digital Camera is scheduled to be available in April for an estimated retail price of $599.99.
